Are You Really Hungry?

AM I REALLY HUNGRY ?

Find out why you are eating and you could be well on your way to solving any weight gain issues. How many times have you found yourself with an empty candy pack in your hand and no memory of actually eating the sweets, ... just the residue of the treat left over ? You don't remember chewing or savouring the food, you just sat mindlessly munching your way through a lot of calories.If you have to watch your weight you will recognise this as the point at which you feel guilty for having demolished yet another snack you didn't mean to have.

It is so easy to eat for all kinds of reasons. We often eat when we are not actually hungry at all but for another reason and this is a major contributory factor in weight gain and also in the slow rate at which you may be losing excess weight.

DO YOU EAT BECAUSE ?

● You are bored and it is something to do
● it is a meal-time and that is what you should be doing
● you are miserable and deserve a treat
● food is on offer ... you see it ... you eat it
● you just fancy something
● you are not sure if you are hungry but eat anyway
● you don't really want something but you give in to others pushing treats your way


Eating for any of these reasons is giving you the problem with weight you now have. It is probably something you have got into the habit of doing over a long period of time, even as long ago as childhood ( reward eating for example)
To break out of these habits you need to get a COUNTER-HABIT This is a simple idea but it takes dedication and a little thought for a short period of time.

Train yourself to question why you are eating. Every time you are around food don't just think about its taste etc. Think “Am I really hungry? Do I really need this?” Then eat if you are genuinely hungry BUT for any other reason choose something else to do. Have a glass of iced water, do something else if you are bored and get into a new habit of eating only when you are hungry.
