British Airport Security
Yesterday I awoke to the news that a Greenpeace protest had been staged at Heathrow Airport and photographs splashed all over the national TV news of people dressed in bright green jackets, boldly announcing they were members of Greenpeace. They were perched on top of a plane at the airport with a huge banner for their current (and ongoing ) protest against pollution and emissions. I was fascinated to say the very least but it was a shocked fascination I had, as the very first thing I thought about was terrorism. Yes I know it had nothing to do with the protest, but it was the thought of these very visible people being able to bypass security and being able to climb and sit aboard the aircraft tail, in Heathrow, which is one of our maine airports, that prompted my horror. What if,let's say, these people were terrorists and they had just walked up to that plane and instead of climbing the plane (which must have taken a few minutes,of which they were not interrupted) what if, the terrorists used the same time to plant a bomb or damage the plane? When will our country learn that we can not slacken our security within airports etc? Why make all the precautions and checks for baording planes and yet allow people to get to the aircraft that we are about to fill up with people, and do whatever they wish? sabbotage? Rigging up a bomb? or climbing onto the aircraft to protest? Come on, this is something we need to be addressing now. |

When I went through Heathrow in December there was nobody there on passport control to check passports before you headed off to the duty free store. The security did seem to be a bit lacking.
