Decorative Chalks and Rubber Stamping

Decorative chalks are brand new in my own world of card and paper crafting but I do like to try all the various techniques available and this is my latest.
For my first attempt I decided to use the chalks with both rubber stamping and also with a brass embossing plate to see what effects I could produce.
The chalks themselves are Dovecraft pastel shimmer chalks and are really pale, glittery and pretty so a delicate effect is produced. My guess is that if I buy the deeper colour chalks I will get a more colourful effect.
I began by choosing a lovely ivy leaf design brass stencil and with my light box and embossing tools i made the pattern to be coloured. Leaving the stencil in place i chose the deepest yellowy green and also a paler more blue green and just randomly coloured the embossed leaves with them. The colour builds as you go over and over the pattern so you can fade it if you wish to. I found this technique easy and when i removed the stencil I was pleased with the result.

Next I chose a plain white folded card to mount my work on but wanted to decorate this too so I used a rubber stamp with decorative corners and I used colourless ink on this so that i could add some embossing powder in a pastel colour. I chose a silver embossing powder and then a heat gun to melt the embossed image into a lovely shuny silver. Once this was dry I took the chalks again and I added random pastel colours over the corner image to enhance the look and give a pretty finish.
I finished the card with a greeting banner.

After my first use of decorative chalks I am inspired to try a few more ways of using them including : adding water and using like paint , using over punched out shapes ,I shall try chalking over embossing inks and use as backgrounds for my cards. I may try using the chalks in many different ways as i enjoy experimenting with them.
I also read somewhere that it is a good idea to use a fixative to seal the finished chalked effect and that it works just as well with standard hairspray instead of the more expensive special sprays ( good idea, I am all for saving money)
